Traffic Calming Survey
Dear Monte Vista Neighbors:
We know many of you have strong concerns about the VIA Green Line and the MVHA Board shares many of those same sentiments. Yet despite our collective best efforts, the Green Line project is now fully funded and beyond our influence. But there is still a significant opportunity to shape how our neighborhood Historic District is protected from the impacts of Green Line traffic diversion onto our residential streets.
The City has recently generated some initial traffic calming steps, and they’re asking for our input through a new survey. This is a critical opportunity to ensure that whatever solutions are implemented actually work for our streets and our residents. We need your expertise as neighbors who know these streets best: Which of the city’s proposed measures make sense? What’s missing? What concerns you most about traffic flow in your area?
Some thoughts from the Board:
We appreciate the traffic calming efforts by the City thus far We appreciate being included in this processThe City’s suggested actions are a good start but we need moreAdditional elements beyond street striping are necessary to handle the overflow we are expectingThe City is willing to trial traffic calming solutions before making them permanentThe recent road work on Hildebrand and San Pedro is providing clear evidence of what happens when frustrated drivers shift routes onto our streetsYour thoughtful input on this survey can directly influence how resources are spent in our neighborhood—so let’s make sure Monte Vista’s voice is heard on the solutions we can still shape.
Sincerely,
MVHA BoardP.S. Early next year, we’ll host a neighborhood-only town hall to discuss our traffic concerns privately and in more depth so we can work toward a unified approach on traffic-calming measures moving forward.
