Can you Top This?

by Mickey Amacker

In this busy world of ours, so much goes unnoticed.  As we drive through our City, so much passes us by.

Walking in our neighborhood of Monte Vista has become very popular with this age of covid-19.  By walking, you are able to take in the surrounding up close and become more aware of the beauty and detail.  However, even when walking, many of us are on our phones texting and talking and miss a lot of what’s around us.

For years I’ve driven down Shook Avenue and disregarded what’s around me.  Then on foot, I was amazed to notice a magnificent live oak tree.  This oak has to be several hundred years old and sits at the corner of Bushnell and Shook on the grounds of the University Presbyterian Church.  It’s quite a beauty and its spread is monumental.  The tree must have many stories to tell.  I know there are many other amazing oak trees in Monte Vista, but I believe this tree to be the crown jewel.

So, the next time you go down Shook Avenue, stop and feast your eyes on this treasure.  I you can top this and  know of other grand oaks in Monte Vista, we invite you to send a photo of the tree, its location, and your personal contact information to:  Amanda Holmes at amandakayeholmes@gmail.com or text her at 469-744-7295.  We’ll share your special tree on our WEBSITE.   We look forward to hearing from you and seeing many of the wonderful trees in MV.
